India-Sri Lanka development partnership has come alive through a photographic exhibition titled "India through Sri Lankan Eyes" that opened here Saturday.

Curated by Mithra Weerakone, president of the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka, it was unveiled at the Deyata Kirula Exhibition at Anuradhapura, by Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris.

Weerakone, with the support of the Indian high commission, visited India in December 2011 when he made an eight-day journey on the 'Mahaparinirvana train' - run by Indian Railways from New Delhi to Buddhist sites.

The exhibition is a display of popular Buddhist spots revered and visited by Sri Lankan pilgrims.

The photographs display an excellent combination of natural beauty and human devotion and captures the emotions involved, the Indian mission said in a statement.

Documentaries on Buddhism, including on Sanchi, are being screened at the Indian pavilion. The exhibition is attracting a large number of visitors.

India has taken a number of initiatives to jointly celebrate the 2,600th anniversary of the attainment of enlightenment by Lord Buddha.

A number of Indian products, especially automobiles, are displayed at the event.
