Solas Health has served North Carolina for over 20 years by providing addiction treatment, pain management, and other medical services at its network of outpatient clinics throughout the state.
Recently, the newest Solas Health location in Smithfield has had a positive impact on residents in the Johnston County area. Specifically, those in need of recovery for a substance use disorder (SUD), and those who are struggling with pain management have benefited from Solas Health's new location. Many of the patients work with Dr. Seung Won Kim, who is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. Dr. Kim brings a caring and uplifting demeanor to the residents of Smithfield who seek his assistance.
"I am excited that our much-needed services are now available in Smithfield," says founder and CEO of Solas Health, Dr. Francis Corrigan, "The opioid epidemic has had a destructive effect on the lives of millions of Americans, and the risk of overdose has never been higher, due to the prevalence of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids in many illicit drugs."
Dr. Corrigan has been working with recovering North Carolinians for over twenty years, and has especially been able to impact the lives of those struggling with an opioid use disorder (OUD) in last decade with the advancements in medication-assisted treatment (MAT). MAT is the practice of prescribing medications, like Suboxone, to reduce cravings during early recovery.
"It is a common misconception that treatment for opioid use disorder is difficult, and frequently unsuccessful," says Dr. Corrigan. "The opposite is true. With appropriate medical evidence-based treatment, including medication assisted treatment, behavioral support, and community self-help programs, the success rate for outpatient opioid use disorder treatment can approach 90%." The 80%+ success rates achieved by patients who combine MAT with counseling and support has been confirmed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), of which Dr. Corrigan is a certified member.
The Smithfield location is Solas Health's sixth clinic, joining other locations in Raleigh, Fayetteville, Pinehurst, Lumberton, and Sanford. The Smithfield clinic is open on Tuesdays and Fridays and can be reached at 919-912-2400. Appointments can be requested on the Solas Health website.
