Seth Jarvis scored with 18.6 seconds remaining, lifting the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.
The Hurricanes appeared to take the lead with 1:15 remaining in regulation when Taylor Hall put the puck in the net, but the Bruins challenged the play and it was determined that Carolina was offside.
David Pastrnak got one last attempt off for the Bruins, but his wrist shot was saved by Pyotr Kochetkov, his 32nd save of the night.
The game was played in the leadup to the Friday trade deadline.
Sebastian Aho and Brent Burns also scored for the Hurricanes, who won for the third straight game after winning just twice in all of February.
Morgan Geekie scored twice for the Bruins, who received two assists from Andrew Peeke. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 20 shots for Boston.
Aho recorded a short-handed goal 6:29 into the game after he stole the puck from Pastrnak and skated in with a nifty finishing move. It marked his team-leading 24th goal of the season, a mark later matched by Jarvis on the game-winner.
Geekie, a former Hurricane, got the Bruins even with 1:05 left in the first period on Boston's 14th and final shot of the period.
Burns made it 2-1 with a goal 2:06 into the second period, with his shot going off a Boston player's stick.
The Bruins, though, were steadily applying pressure. They held a 23-13 advantage in shots with about seven minutes to play in the second period.
The Bruins had four players called up from AHL Providence on Wednesday in their lineup. That quartet -- Riley Tufte, Vinni Lettieri, Ian Mitchell and Patrick Brown -- combined for a total of 17 games played for Boston this season prior to Thursday.
Carolina played without defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who was listed out with a minor injury. Then defenseman Riley Stillman exited in the first period after taking a Boston skate to the face during his first shift.
It was the 100th consecutive sellout -- regular season and playoffs -- for the Hurricanes.
