CHICAGO, Illinois: Motorola Solutions rolled out a new multi-functional device aimed at streamlining emergency response for law enforcement and first responders this week as demand grows for tools that boost speed and efficiency in public safety.
The new device, called the SVX, combines a body camera, remote speaker microphone, and an artificial intelligence assistant named Assist. Designed to reduce time spent on manual data entry and improve real-time communication, the SVX is Motorola's latest move to expand its stronghold in the public safety technology market.
Motorola Solutions currently routes over 60% of 911 calls in the United States through its software systems, and the SVX is expected to integrate seamlessly with the company's existing infrastructure. The device works in tandem with Motorola's APX NEXT radios to deliver live data analysis and faster access to key information such as license plate or ID details.
"Patrol officers spend more than 40% of their report writing time on basic data entry and Assist is expected to reduce it," the company said.
The product is the result of collaborative development, with 32 public safety agencies and 150 active users offering feedback during testing, according to Chief Technology Officer Mahesh Saptharishi.
"We built this device in collaboration with 32 agencies out there with 150 users that actively tested, gave us feedback," Saptharishi told Reuters.
In addition to boosting emergency response, the launch also comes as electronics and hardware manufacturers across industries look to diversify their supply chains amid shifting global trade dynamics and newly imposed U.S. tariffs.
Saptharishi said Motorola's supply chain strategy remains flexible. "Our supply chain is a very fluid situation right now," he noted. "Globally, we have manufacturing presence in the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Malaysia and we optimize our supply chain and manufacturing based on the nature of what's required."
The company's rollout of the SVX underscores its commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in public safety tech while adapting to global market challenges.
