The Minnesota Twins placed catcher Christian Vazquez on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left shoulder infection.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday for the Twins, who recalled fellow catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul.
Vazquez, 34, is batting just .174 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 61 games this season.
He is a career .249 hitter with 70 homers and 348 RBIs in 989 games with the Boston Red Sox and Twins.
Pereda, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Athletics on July 22.
He batted .333 (7-for-21) with one homer and three RBIs in six games with the Saints.
Pereda achieved a level of fame on May 15 when he pitched the bottom of the eighth inning of the Athletics' 19-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers and struck out three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani, who hit two homers earlier in the game.
