Coming off a 119-loss season, the Colorado Rockies selected Detroit Tigers right-hander RJ Petit with the first pick of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
A total of 13 players were selected in the major league phase of the draft, including four players currently ranked among their organization's top-30 prospects by MLB.
All of the players picked were right-handed pitchers except for catcher Daniel Susac, whom the Minnesota Twins selected from the Athletics with the fourth pick in Wednesday's draft.
Teams must have room on their 40-man rosters to select a player and pay $100,000 to the team they drafted from. If the player fails to remain on the 26-man roster for the full 2026 season, he is offered back to his former team for $50,000. If the former team declines, and no other team makes a waiver claim, then he can be assigned to the minor leagues.
Petit, 26, was a 14th-round draft pick by Detroit in 2021. The reliever finished 10-2 with a 2.44 ERA and three saves in 47 games (two starts) between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo in 2025.
Petit was ranked as the No. 30 prospect in the Tigers' system.
Susac, 24, ranked No. 11 in the Athletics' pipeline. A first-round draft pick (19th overall) by Oakland in 2022, he hit .275 with 18 homers and 68 RBIs in 97 games at Triple-A Las Vegas in 2025.
The Chicago White Sox made two selections. With the second pick, they took righty Jedixson Paez from the Boston Red Sox (team's No. 19 prospect). With the 13th and final pick, they took righty Alexander Alberto from the Tampa Bay Rays.
The White Sox also lost their No. 14 prospect, however. With the ninth pick, the Cleveland Guardians drafted righty Peyton Pallette.
The other 2025 Rule 5 Draft picks:
3. RHP Griff McGarry (Nationals from Phillies)
5. RHP Carter Baumler (Pirates from Orioles)
6. RHP Ryan Watson (Athletics from Giants)
7. RHP Matthew Pushard (Cardinals from Marlins)
8. RHP Roddery Munoz (Astros from Reds)
10. RHP Spencer Miles (Blue Jays from Giants)
11. RHP Cade Winquest (Yankees from Cardinals)
12. RHP Zach McCambley (Phillies from Marlins)
