The Minnesota Twins scratched All-Star right-hander Joe Ryan from his scheduled start against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon just prior to the first pitch due to tightness in lower back.
The decision comes one day after the team announced right-hander Pablo Lopez will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and miss the entire 2026 season.
Right-hander Eston Stull replaced Ryan just before the start of the Twins' Grapefruit League opener versus the Red Sox.
Ryan, 29, posted a 13-10 record with a career-best 3.42 ERA in 31 appearances (30 starts) last season. The dependable hurler made his first career All-Star Game last summer.
